Refresh Your Home With Autumn Winter 2021 Trends
Autumn brings beautiful crisp mornings, darker evenings, colourful trees and a new season of trends.
You may think A/W trends only lend themselves to dark moody tones of forest green and navy blue, but this Autumn brings light, warmth, earthiness and texture to our homes. Â
2020 was not the year for groundbreaking trends, let’s be honest, we were more focused on homemade office spaces and hand sanitiser. But most people we speak to seem to have come out of 2020 with a lot more clarity – on how they want to live their lives.
So, armed with clarity, let’s go A/W21!
1. BALANCE & CLARITY
Last year taught us our mind and body need our love! Subdued aesthetics in our home promote balance and calm.Â
– Natural fibres | Natural fibres and materials are in, with all their imperfections and wonderful character. They tend to be healthier for you and our planet.Â
– Hidden or no hardware | Light switches, electrical sockets and taps are being hidden or removed altogether in homes at the moment. Benchtops are extending up walls to be splashbacks. All are easier on the eye and allow you to focus on what’s important.Â
– Quality & comfort | Overall there seems to be a trend away from cheaper imported goods, and our wonderful country is looking to its own for locally made goods like our custom made bedheads. People are preferring to save for a little longer to buy something that is higher quality and longer-lasting. In the long run it saves our pockets and our planet.Â
– Minimal clutter | A lot of us did the big clean out over one of the many lockdowns, the key is keeping at it. Because minimal clutter is a trend that is here to stay. Easier on the eye, mind and heck if nothing else it makes your keys easier to find! Need some motivation? Watch the Minimalism documentary on Netflix.
2. WARM NEUTRALS & EARTH TONES
Cream and browns lead the way (don’t be put off!) with pops of sage green and light terracotta. If you typically style your home with the cooler neutrals (white, grey, charcoal), don’t worry, adding in some key elements can transform your room and bring the warmth this season is craving. Transform your bedroom with a beige neutral or burnt orange bedhead (for the bold and brave of us), a sage throw and light terracotta cushions. Don’t forget different textures, they add depth and interest to your room. Make sure they aren’t overly designed or patterned.Â

3. BACK TO BASICS
As we mentioned, trends are heading away from lesser-quality furniture and towards sturdy, hard-wearing, well-made furniture. Think comfort and simple lines.Â
Vintage furniture is making a comeback and we love it, especially mixed with modern minimalist spaces. It adds a lived-in look, history and interest to your room. So pull out Nana’s kitchen things, your travel mementoes and knick-knacks. But not too many. Â
Another trend we are seeing, and this sounds weird, but homes and tending to be less ‘designed’ and ‘put together’. When you crack this one, let us know.Â
4. INTERESTING SHAPES
Think shelving filled with ceramics, glassware and candles in different shapes. Select items in a colour theme to create a cohesive look with plenty of interest in the shapes.Â

5. GREENERY
In summer we gravitated toward fresh flower arrangements in beautiful bright colours. For autumn we are loving bunches of dried greenery. Eucalypt is great as it also adds a fresh scent to your space!
Nothing warms or completes a room like greenery. So dried is a wonderful way to achieve this whilst not being responsible for plant massacre after plant massacre. Because everyone has their thing, and not all of us are gardeners.Â
5. SMARTER SPACES
Last year every man and their dog, that used to go to doggy-day-care, had to stay home.
This meant the dining table suddenly became part office, part school. Not ideal. So this year we are seeing homeowners thinking smartly about spaces and making them multi-functional. This is the new normal. Welcome.
Home offices are transformed into media rooms with heavy velvet curtains and clever cabinetry. Beds fold away to become desks. Think about your home and how you could use it for more than one use.Â
People are also looking differently at their spaces and making them work harder. Hidden storage drawers in stairs rather than just wasted space. Pull-down beds from walls in offices for when guests visit. Clothes airers that are on pulleys so your clothes are out of sight up near your ceiling (where coincidentally all the hot air goes!).Â
