Birthday

Lockdown Birthday Bash

Thanks to the year 2020, we are seeing more and more, our loved ones celebrating milestones minimally, postponing them or not celebrating at all. Some we are seeing celebrate anyways and in a ‘big’ way! Whether you are in Melbourne (where we are slowly gaining a little more freedom! Yay!) or if you are in a state with almost back to normal-ish life. Covid has affected us all! Below are some creative ways to ring in another year of you – no matter what your Alert Level.

Decorate!

First and foremost decorations! They are not just for children. Decorate your house, get some balloons and streamers delivered and decorate your kitchen or office area. Don’t feel lame, this is your opportunity to celebrate you! You can always try the not-so-subtle putting the box of decorations on your loved one’s desk/side of the bed – if you love me and value your life… you will DECORATE!

Let them eat cake

If you can’t currently get out and enjoy your favourite cake shop yet, get it delivered! We always recommend using your local cake shop so you can support local economy. Even just one cake can make all the difference in the world to that business owner.

Treat yourself to your favourite meal

If you are stuck at home – A lot of our fav restaurants are now offering wonderful at-home kits – whether they give you ingredients and instructions or deliver the full hot meal. You can enjoy your favourite meal on your birthday. Because seriously, THIS YEAR, you should celebrate!

Zoom, zoom, zoom!

For those who have yet to park up with a bottle of wine and experience a Zoom Wedding/Party/Graduation…you need to! It is surprisingly fun! I have been enjoying monthly wine and cooking classes with my girlfriends and I tell you what it really makes my week! We have also found COVID has made us better at keeping in touch with our out-of-state and overseas friends and family.

Buy yourself a gift

You know what, a friend of mine decided in her twenties that she would start buying herself gifts for her birthday because she was single and didn’t think she should miss out on a GREAT gift each year. She is now ‘partnered-up’ with sprogs, and still does it. She calls it double-dipping. So from her to you – BUY YOURSELF SOMETHING SPECIAL! This year is tough for everyone, you deserve something nice – bonus points if it’s completely impractical and indulgent.

Pamper yourself

If you are hanging out for a facial or a movie out, get creative. Buy yourself some decadent facial products or set up a sheet and projector in the backyard and pop that popcorn! Put the effort in, it may feel silly but I guarantee it will be worth it. You WILL enjoy it a lot more than you think.

If you are in a position to go out and let the professionals do the work, do it! You never realise how stressed or worn out you are until you set yourself down for 2 hours of pampering. Sure you spend the first 20 minutes wondering how you are going to do nothing and be quiet for 2 hours. But after that you just melt!

Think quality not quantity

Some people who had wedding plans are choosing to take their previous budget for 100+ people and spending it on a mini wedding of 10-30 people. Oh the decadence!! And most seem to actually be happy they made the choice. The same can be applied to a birthday. If you would normally go out and have a big night out and spend $X for your birthday with a large group of pals or set off on an overseas adventure. If you have the capacity to do so, think about spending that same amount but on a smaller group. Say your bubble, or a small group depending on what your State is currently mandating. Birthday’s deserve to be celebrated and 2020 has definitely taken enough from us!
