Birthday To-Do List

With 2020 being what it was, I worry that people are going to forget what celebrating should even look like. This is where I come in. I have scoured the internet, thought back to my birthday bashes and come up with a list to guide you!

Decorate!

First and foremost decorations! They are not just for children. Decorate your house, get some balloons and streamers delivered and decorate your kitchen or office area. Don’t feel lame, this is your opportunity to celebrate you! You can always try the not-so-subtle putting the box of decorations on your loved one’s desk/side of the bed – if you love me and value your life… you will DECORATE!

Let them eat cake

A birthday is not a birthday, without cake. We always recommend using your local cake shop so you can support local economy. Even just one cake can make all the difference in the world to that business owner. Check out SHOP LOCAL

Treat yourself to your favourite meal

Book a table in to your favourite restaurant and treat yourself! Enjoy all the splendours and pay no mind to the calories. They don’t count on your birthday.

Zoom, zoom, zoom!

If you can’t see your loved ones due to border restrictions and for those who have yet to park up with a bottle of wine and experience a Zoom Wedding/Party/Graduation…you need to! It is surprisingly fun! I have been enjoying monthly wine and cooking classes with my girlfriends and I tell you what it really makes my week! We have also found COVID has made us better at keeping in touch with our out-of-state and overseas friends and family.

Buy yourself a gift

You know what, a friend of mine decided in her twenties that she would start buying herself gifts for her birthday because she was single and didn’t think she should miss out on a GREAT gift each year. She is now ‘partnered-up’ with sprogs, and still does it. She calls it double-dipping. So from her to you – BUY YOURSELF SOMETHING SPECIAL! 2020 was tough and 2021 may yet bring challenges so you deserve something nice – bonus points if it’s completely impractical and indulgent.

Pamper yourself

Book a facial, get your hair done or see a movie by yourself.

You never realise how stressed or worn out you are until you set yourself down for 2 hours of pampering. Sure you spend the first 20 minutes wondering how you are going to do nothing and be quiet for 2 hours. But after that you just melt!

Think quality not quantity

If you can’t have everyone in attendance for your birthday due to border restrictions and you would normally go out and have a big night out or set off overseas on an extravagant holiday. If you have the capacity to do so, think about spending that same amount but on a smaller group/event.

Whatever you do, have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
